A chest of drawers is a kind of furniture that consists of a set of drawers that are used to store clothes and other items. There are lots of items but these are at least the main components of the bedroom.

There are quite a few free dresser plans here that range in the number of drawers, different drawer sizes, different widths, and different heights. You're sure to find the perfect plan for your room or a loved one's room. A dresser is typically horizontal and short with over six drawers.

Rolling Chest

If you're in the market for a small bedroom dresser for a nursery or guest room, why not make it yourself? It only takes a few sheets of plywood, a few feet of solid wood and a free weekend to build this simple modern dresser design. A modern and contemporary dresser can be made from various materials and can be found to suit almost any budget. You can purchase modern-style dressers at a low cost from stores such as IKEA, or high-end furniture designers also stock a range of modern dressers.

DIY Modern Console Dresser

Assemble the drawer box by gluing the sides (G), the front/back (H) pieces and the bottom (I) together. Secure these pieces with two screws in each corner. By recessing and plugging your screws with a plug cut from your chosen hardwood, you add a wonderful touch to the finished dresser. Modern dressers will usually have a glossy finish, which might be achieved through lacquered spray paint, or a veneer. You can find modern dressers in almost any shade to suit your color scheme. This type of dresser is most popular for older children or teenagers, as having a younger child on a raised bed could be a safety issue.

The thinner ply configuration is stronger and offers an aesthetically pleasing edge that’s visible on the top of the drawer boxes. Leather furniture often features additional details such as buttons, studs, or gems. One great benefit of leather furniture is that it wipes down easily. If you’re on a budget, then faux leather might be a good option, though real leather will last longer, and it becomes even softer and fuller of character as it ages.

dresser design

The standard width of those drawers is about 24 – 36 inches. This is typically done with a standard horizontal dresser with a changing table installed on the top. They are usually at about a standing height so that it is comfortable to use the changing portion of it as well as the storage functions.

Decorating your dresser begins with selecting a cohesive theme or style. Consider adding a decorative tray to corral items, such as a vase of fresh flowers or a couple of favorite books. Balance is critical, so use a mix of functional and decorative items like candles, framed photos, and small sculptures. Experiment with different heights and textures for visual interest.

dresser design

Their furniture is eco-friendly and good for home décor. I recommend this product for its material and high storage capacity. It has 5 different size drawers used for different purposes.

The standard dresser size ranges from 26″ to 44″ inches tall, 36″ to 60″ wide, and 16″ to 22″ deep. When pulled out drawers extend about 10″ to 12″ from the front. Glam style is the perfect place to bring in mirrored furniture pieces. Unfortunately, modern design is made from some of the lower quality materials and can become outdated quicker than a traditional option. While the first that that comes to your mind when you think of furniture material probably is not leather, it can be a great addition to your space.

If you can’t decide between a vertical or horizontal dresser, you might consider a combo dresser offering the best of both worlds. Decorating a rustic dresser top with elements like pumpkins, mirrors, and family photo frames represents a harmonious blend of rustic and traditional styles. It’s a perfect example of how contrasting elements can create a visually appealing composition. Incorporating different textures like rattan, jute, or faux fur can elevate the look of a beige dresser. Mixing and matching textures adds depth and visual interest to the decor, creating a tactile and inviting ambiance.

Most brands are going to have add-on options for expert assembly and furniture removal of your old stuff. The stenciled design really puts it over the top with it’s mid-century modern vibe. Great to use in a guest room, dorm room, or any bedroom where you could use extra storage. You can finish this DIY modern dresser with any stain you choose, but I used Walrus Oil Furniture Butter to bring out the natural look of the poplar.

The original Swanneys of the Swannie House

The Fried Bologna was even better and I’ll be back soon for another. The bologna was cut think too, as it should be, piled with grilled onion and cheddar on a nice Costanzo roll. The Mac salad was tasty – clearly house-made with fresh herbs. Another Buffalo staple is the unforgettable smell of Cheerios roasting. The Swannie House is located right next door, across the street from the river by the Michigan street bridge.

Swannie House Reviews

Combine this kind of seclusion with the tavern’s intimate, wood-paneled interiors and you’ll understand how it’s still standing after so many bars around it have fallen. And such attributes will keep it steady as an unforeseen swarm of development rises around it. If you’re looking for some quality pub food with some atmosphere and a side of history, then the Swannie House is calling your name. Don’t let the rough exterior fool you, someone is working hard in the kitchen. I’d be tempted to go for a late lunch, and let it roll right into happy hour and a Sabres game. “It was a great night of pure Buffalo hospitality,” said Zeisberger.

Walk the other way and you’ll find quick routes to Canalside; the new Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino; and old neighbor Malamute, which is primed to reopen as the craft cocktail-focused Ballyhoo in the fall. But it’s the presumed future of the Swannie House that makes the place even more intriguing. Step outside the bar’s stain-glassed doors one way and you’ll see the possibilities of Ohio Street, with plenty of parcels primed to join nearby River Fest Park and upcoming Freight House Landing apartments off the Buffalo River. The liverwurst was great, cut thick and piled high with fresh, full flavored slices of red onion, on a nice fresh rye bread.

Restaurant Details

There was a small group at the bar with five or six tables available adjacent. We were immediately greeted by our friendly server (also the bartender), and treated to some fine draft beer choices . While the Swanerski of Poland story looks to be a bit of barstool blarney, the record actually shows that the Swanneys of Scotland were the first to operate the tavern that still bears their name. The spelling of Swanney did change to Swannie at some point during the earliest days of the bar being open, which might have evolved and morphed into a story involving Robert Nowak, the Polish-American who owned the bar in the 1940s and '50s. The laminated Toronto Sun story is veteran National Hockey League journalist Mike Zeisberger’s homage to Jim Kelley, the longtime Buffalo News hockey writer who died in 2010, centered around a night at the Swannie House. Among the framed photographs and Buffalo memorabilia hangs an article summoning the memory of a particular night in the bar’s history.

He said kindness is what people remember about the woman who tried to cure every ail that came her way. I walked under the race placard to find Swannie’s clandestine outdoor seating, covered and surrounded by high wooden fencing and landscaping. Whether on a long lunch or out “running errands,” patrons can hide for a few pops while basking in sweet cereal smells from nearby General Mills.

The Story

Some of that might not be true, Cichon found; there's no record of anyone named Swanerski – or anyone with a name even close – living in or emigrating to Buffalo, ever. On a recent Tuesday night, I stopped by the Swannie, ordered a Genny Cream stubby ($2.75) and a bag of Cheetos ($1), then settled into a barroom table surrounded by artifacts of Buffalo’s history. Old blue seats from Memorial Auditorium hung above my head, right near a picture of the Sabres’ French Connection and across the bar from a framed photo of Ward boxing legend Jimmy Slattery. Scattered around the front entrance are varsity letters from local high schools like Timon and Frontier; over the doorway leading to the back patio is a retired mile marker for the Shamrock Run. The First Ward's Swannie House is one of Buffalo's oldest gin mills, and recently, the family of the man who started the place began looking for some proper recognition.

With Debbie Wiles-Fetterman's death, the heart of the Swannie House stopped beating

The former is primed to serve as the city’s long-awaited connection between its inner and outer harbor, with trees, bike paths and street lighting revamping a 1.4-mile thoroughfare to Fuhrmann Boulevard. And whether architects and planners of the forthcoming boulevard intended to or not, they’ve also positioned the latter – one of Buffalo’s most cherished corner gin mills – to become their riverside project’s unofficial welcome center. She was behind the bar five days earlier, chatting as she served folks from the neighborhood. That night, she kept the bar open late to accommodate a regular who was meeting friends from out of town. There's no record of anyone named Swanerski – or anyone with a name even close – living in or emigrating to Buffalo, ever. But since at least 1866, the Swanney family had been running a boarding house (with a tavern on the ground floor) in the First Ward.

Musician Kevin Kukoda started going to Swannie House as a child, brought by his father, along with a gang from the office, for gravy fries, burgers and wings. According to census and city directory records, the same William Swanney was born in Scotland. It was likely just the innocent manifestation of some old Irish storytelling, but the frequently retold told tale explaining the background of the Swannie name doesn't measure up to the records. Some of the menu items are as classic as the Swannie, with a few Buffalo standards, but they also offer some good looking salads, appetizers, burgers, wraps and entrees. For starters we ordered the house-made chili ($3.95), and beer battered Stuffed Peppers – $7.25. I was a bit nervous about the deep fried banana peppers. Not so, they were nicely battered, with a light crispy shell that seems to hold everything together. Put these babies on the top of the stuffed banana peppers in Buffalo list.

The late 19th century bar – first called the “Swanerski House” before some Irish-reared editing – is the second oldest in the city (behind the soon-to-be reopened Ulrich’s), with more history in its men’s urinal than most bars have inside four walls. The Tim Wiles-owned tavern has tamed Polish brawls, cashed grain scoopers’ checks and hosted generations of General Mills employees. It’s handled decades of Sabres fans, First Ward residents and Edward M. Cotter fireboat passengers. And its interiors detail the Nickel City’s waterfront history from its heyday to present day.

That meant following in the tradition of the owners who came before, standing behind the polished mahogany bar, lining up frosty bottles of Labatts and shots of Crown Royal. Often times, such transformation motivates changes within neighboring locales, if only to keep up with the Joneses. But if you walk into the Swannie House, look over their six taps and absorb the ambience, you’ll pray they don’t touch a thing.

Are House Centipedes Dangerous? Should You Kill Them?

are house centipedes poisonous

Sprays or dusts should be applied to sites where centipedes are suspected such as cracks and crevices in concrete slabs, block walls, etc. Harborage reduction is the second most important management tactic. With appropriate fillers, fill or seal cracks and crevices in concrete slabs and block walls.

Chemical Control

Its body is yellowish grey and has three dark-colored dorsal stripes running down its length. They do not instantly change direction when light is suddenly shone at them, but will retreat to a darker hiding spot. When you choose Aptive, you’re choosing a happy, healthy home. Depending on where you live, you may be familiar with managing pest-ridden garbage cans.

When To Call a Professional

Clearing any debris that may become damp (such as leaves, dirt, grass clippings, or weeds) from around the perimeter of your home may help deter them from entering. If a centipede is found indoors, you can get rid of it with a vacuum. However, you should contact a licensed pest professional if you suspect an infestation. You can find one near you with the helpful zip code search below.

Centipedes are generally considered nuisance pests, as they do not pose significant health or property threats. However, all house centipedes have poison jaws with which they inject venom into their prey. Yes, house centipedes are capable of biting, but their bites are rare and generally not a significant concern for humans.

Do Centipedes Bite People?

House centipedes feed on small arthropods, including pest insects, so their presence in large numbers may indicate another underlying pest issue. Coleoptrata showed the ability to distinguish between possible prey, avoiding dangerous insects. They also adapted their feeding pattern to the type of hazard the prey might pose to them. House centipedes have been observed to groom their legs by curling around and grooming them with their forcipules. There are various ways to keep centipedes out of your home—or at least make it more difficult for them to move in—beyond banishing the bugs they eat.

Scutigera coleoptrata

They simply find dark corners to live in when they’re not hunting for food. House centipedes are smaller centipedes that are commonly found on the inside of homes. They tend to live in warmer, more humid climates and prefer to hunt during the night.

The house centipede is capable of biting a human, but this seldom occurs. The worst one can usually expect from a house centipedes bite is some pain and a slight swelling at the location of the bite. However, the bite can cause health problems for those few who are allergic to the extremely mild venom of its bite, which is similar to that of most normal centipedes. If you’re someone who can’t stand the sight of worms or cockroaches, or if you have arachnophobia, chances are you won’t appreciate having house centipedes around you, either. House centipedes are common household insects known for their many legs that help them scurry past you in the blink of an eye.

Got Pests? Expert Advice to Deter Unwanted Houseguests

If a bite does occur, it may cause localized pain, redness, and mild swelling, similar to a bee or wasp sting. However, these symptoms usually subside within a few hours, and medical attention is rarely required. While house centipede bites are not typically a cause for concern, some individuals may be more sensitive or allergic to their venom, leading to more pronounced symptoms.

They live anywhere from 3 to 7 years, depending on the environment. The house centipede is an arthropod, a genus that includes insects as well as centipedes, millipedes, arachnids (spiders) and crustaceans (such as lobsters). The house centipede originated in the Mediterranean but now can be found across Europe, Asia, and North America. The result is a bite that’s more painful than anything else, and should you get bit, expect the swelling and discomfort to mimic a bee sting. It should subside within a few hours, and maximum, a few days.

These chemicals harm small insects but pose no serious threat to humans. The worst side effects from centipede bites are usually mild pain and swelling. Unless provoked to defend themselves, house centipedes rarely bite people or pets and mostly prefer trying to escape threatening situations. Also, although house centipede venom is not as toxic as some other centipede species and their bites rarely cause any serious effects.

However, that may not matter much to you if you wake up to find one crawling in your bed or jump 10 feet in the air when one peeks out of your drain as you’re getting ready to bathe. The toxins are responsible for the inflammation and mild burning sensation we discussed earlier. Once again, those who are more sensitive to insect allergens might experience more irritation than most. So, it’s a good idea to seek medical attention if you experience an infection or serious reaction. Now, just because the house centipede isn’t dangerous to humans, that doesn’t mean that you should pick them up or try to interact with them!

The reason for this is that leaving the centipede remains where it is may attract more centipedes. Centipedes are carnivores that will eat the remains of dead centipedes. So, get rid of their remains so that you don’t have to worry about attracting more to your area. People tend to be terrified of them because of their large number of legs and quick speed. Keep reading to learn if they can harm you and how to get rid of them in your home.

A bright red head tops its long, shiny black body, and roughly 20 pairs of yellow legs help it scurry around. This species, also known as the eastern bark centipede, can be found in the southeast, including—you guessed it—in Florida. This type of centipede grows to around three inches long and is described as aggressive. Most people find Florida blue centipedes in their backyard, living under logs or rocks, but it’s not uncommon for them to seek refuge in homes after a big rainstorm. Unlike ants, spiders, roaches, mosquitoes, and many other types of insects, most people don’t have run-ins with centipedes regularly. Because of this, it can be even more frightening when we do since we’re not sure what to expect.

The amount of pain you feel will be determined by the amount of venom injected into the bite. Their bites may be comparable to bee stings in terms of pain. Larger centipedes may deliver more venom, causing intense pain.

They like damp dark places, and tend to be more active at night, though if you disturb one of their hiding or resting places, you may see them scuttling about during the day. You may find them under your sink or in the bathtub occasionally, as those spots combine the damp and dark conditions they love so much. They tend to be fairly dormant in the winter (they prefer temperate climates) and begin to be more active in spring. Once temperatures begin to get colder in autumn they may want to find an indoor hiding place.
